Dr. Michelina (“Mickey”) Witte earned her M.S. in Psychology in 2005 and her Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 2008 from Florida State University. She has earned such prestigious awards as the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the B.W. Robinson Memorial Endowment for Neuroscience from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and the Lloyd M. Beidler Fellowship from the Florida State University, and the New Investigator Travel Award from the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior.
Upon moving to Miami, Dr. Witte worked as a research scientist at the University of Miami (UM) Brain Endowment Bank and then soon switched over to doing neurotrauma prevention research at UM’s KiDZ Neuroscience Center, where works as a project manager today. Dr. Witte is also an adjunct faculty lecturer in UM’s Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences where she teaches many undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition ranging from Applied Nutrition for Health and Performance to Advanced Neurological Mechanisms of Obesity.
Dr. Witte has published several scientific journal articles and has presented at numerous scientific societies. Outside of academia, she is a competitive amateur triathlete, a two-time Ironman finisher, and a passionate road safety advocate.
